JOINT PROJECT BY SIBUR'S R&D CENTRE AND BIAXPLEN WINS CHEMICOS UNIQUE AWARD

Moscow, 8 May 2019. The solution developed jointly by SIBUR's R&D Centre and BIAXPLEN to produce special chemicals known as masterbatches was named the winner in the Production and Technology category at ChemiCos Unique, an international award in the field of household chemicals.

Masterbatches are functional additives that impart special properties to BOPP films and are widely used in BIAXPLEN products. Prior to the project with SIBUR, BIAXPLEN imported close to 90% of the masterbatches for its manufacturing needs. The in-house production of masterbatches complies with the most up-to-date industry standards and will enable the company to replace imports ensuring a consistently high quality of its BOPP films. It will also help lower costs, reduce dependence on foreign suppliers, and facilitate development of new products to meet customer needs.

“Our masterbatch production technology was developed by NIOST, SIBUR’s corporate R&D centre for chemical technologies in Tomsk. It will help us to better manage costs, cut the lead time considerably between the order placement and delivery, and expedite the creation of fundamentally new films for our market. These include high-barrier films, films for in-mould labelling and packaging of new tobacco products. Using masterbatches developed by SIBUR’s R&D, we can tailor our product portfolio to specific customer requirements, keeping up with the domestic and global market trends,” said Marat Falyakhov, Execurive Director at BIAXPLEN.

“The development of the masterbatch production technology was a big and challenging project for SIBUR’s R&D centre. As we embarked on it, we were hoping to not only supply BIAXPLEN with masterbatches of SIBUR’s own production, but also acquire unique competence for potential future endeavours requiring technology development skills," commented Irina Kuzmina, Head of Project Development at NIOST.
